Great Horned Owl Flies Free After Six Weeks

He came in the first week of May — a driver spotted him in the ditch off Old Shakopee Road, dazed and dragging a wing. X-rays showed a clean ulnar fracture: painful, but the best kind of break an owl can get.

Six weeks of wraps, physical therapy, and increasingly indignant glares later, he passed his live-prey test and flight evaluation without hesitation.

We released him at dusk near where he was found. He gave us exactly one backward look, then vanished into the oaks. That look is why we do this.

Cost of this rescue: roughly $140 in medication, food, and supplies — covered entirely by your donations. Thank you.
